Patient-reported Weight Agrees With Clinic Data One Year After Metabolic/Bariatric Surgery
Matthew M. Hutter, MD, and colleagues found excellent agreement between body weight reported by patients one year after bariatric surgery and the weights their hospitals reported to a national surgical database. Asking patients to report objective outcomes may ease data collection burden and increase follow-up time.

New Scoring System Allows Assessment of the Severity of Ileoanal Pouch Syndrome
Paul Cavallaro, MD, Liliana Bordeianou, MD, MPH, and colleagues developed the ileoanal pouch syndrome (IPS) severity score, which is unique among postoperative bowel function scores in that it was entirely developed in a population of patients with pouches and items weighted differently based on patient input.

Sociodemographic Factors Influence Whether Orthopedic Surgery Patients Complete PROMs
Massachusetts General Hospital researchers found that 60% of patients in orthopedic surgery clinics, especially racial/ethnic minorities and others who commonly face disparities in care, did not complete patient-reported outcome measures. This variability could skew the results of clinical outcomes research.
