Cardiorenal Biomarkers Predict Major Complications in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes and Chronic Kidney Disease
James L. Januzzi, MD, and colleagues showed that among people with type 2 diabetes and albuminuria, baseline and follow-up concentrations of four biomarkers of cardiorenal stress individually and collectively predicted the risk of heart failure, progression of kidney disease, and related outcomes.

Pathways Case Report: Blood Finds a Way
A 30-year-old woman presented to the hospital and was ultimately discovered to have extensive veno-venous collaterals between anterior, systemic, and chest wall veins connecting directly to their right superior pulmonary veins and left atrium. The Pathways Consult Service at Massachusetts General Hospital investigated.

Pathways Case Record: A Patient With Arteriovenous Malformations
A 68-year-old man with atrial fibrillation and recurrent melena was admitted with multiple episodes of dark, tarry stool and anemia. He was found to have small bowel arteriovenous malformations (AVMs). The Pathways Consult Service at Mass General investigated the etiology of this patient's gastrointestinal AVMs.
