Tricuspid Regurgitation Uncommon After Surgery for Ischemic Mitral Regurgitation But Tied to Cardiac Events
After surgery for ischemic mitral regurgitation, progression of unrepaired, nonsevere tricuspid regurgitation is uncommon, but when it occurs it is associated with high rates of clinical events, according to an analysis by Judy Hung, MD, and Philippe Bertrand, MD, PhD, of the Division of Cardiology, and colleagues.

Measuring Transvalvular Flow Rate Adds to Prognostication About Aortic Stenosis
Aortic valve area measured at low transvalvular flow rate is not a good prognostic marker for truly severe aortic stenosis and therefore not a good diagnostic marker.

Certain Risks Higher for Women After Surgery for Severe Ischemic Mitral Regurgitation
According to a secondary analysis of a randomized trial of mitral valve surgery for severe ischemic mitral regurgitation, women are at significantly higher risk than men for death, major cardiac/cerebrovascular events and worse quality of life two years after surgery.

Left Ventricular-Mitral Valve Ring Ratio May Predict Recurrent Mitral Regurgitation
Researchers found that a mismatch in left ventricular and mitral valve ring size can predict whether a patient is at a higher risk of recurrent mitral regurgitation after mitral valve repair.
