Massachusetts General Hospital researchers demonstrated that a community-based perinatal program combining patient navigation, behavioral healthcare and emergency relief was associated with improvements in depressive symptoms and perceived stress, as well as improvement in anxiety symptoms for a subset of participants.

Fentanyl in Labor Epidural Can Affect Results of Maternal and Neonatal Toxicology Tests
Molly R. Siegel, MD, and Sarah N. Bernstein, MD, demonstrated when fentanyl is given as part of the labor epidural, up to 91% of maternal toxicology tests and up to 80% of neonatal tests are positive for the drug. Care should be taken in interpreting toxicology results to avoid false assumptions of non-prescribed use.

Survey Identifies Factors Linked to COVID-19 Vaccine Uptake, Hesitancy During Pregnancy
Molly Siegel, MD, Ilona T. Goldfarb, MD, MPH, and colleagues found in Summer 2021 that only 49% of 473 pregnant/postpartum individuals surveyed at Mass General Brigham reported COVID-19 vaccination or plans for it. Concern about personal or fetal side effects were among the top reasons for vaccine hesitancy.
Biography
Molly Siegel, MD, is an obstetrician gynecologist and maternal-fetal medicine specialist in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and associate director for obstetrics and gynecology in the Center for Immigrant Health at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Siegel is an instructor in Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Biology at Harvard Medical School.
