Review: Understanding Neuroimaging–Genetic Intersections in the Human Brain
Ibai Diez, PhD, and Jorge Sepulcre, PhD, DMSc, MD, of the Gordon Center for Medical Imaging, explain how neuroimaging findings are being combined with genetic data—research that might lead to disease-modifying therapies for neurodegenerative diseases.

White Matter Is Altered in Functional Neurological Disorder
In the first study to evaluate white matter in mixed motor subtypes of functional neurological disorder, microstructural differences were observed in brain regions implicated in emotion/salience, pain modulation and stress responses, and certain differences correlated with clinical findings.
Biography
Diez uses state-of-the-art neuroimaging to study structural and functional brain data to improve diagnosis and prognosis in different neurological disorders. More specifically, he utilizes Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), a non-invasive neuroimaging modality, to study brain functional and structural data and new methods for brain connectivity analysis applied to functional neurological disorder (FND). His work is at the frontiers between two fields: the Biomedical Engineering of Image Processing and Clinical Neuroscience.
