On April 16, 2020, the Department of Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital held its sixth virtual Grand Rounds presentation related to COVID-19. Chana A. Sacks, MD, internist at Mass General and images editor at the New England Journal of Medicine, led a discussion on the role of medical journals in the development of new therapies and approaches to patient care during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The session was moderated by Katrina Armstong, MD, physician-in-chief in the Department of Medicine at Mass General. Speakers included Martin Hirsch, MD, senior physician in the Infectious Disease Division at Mass General and editor-in-chief of the Journal of Infectious Diseases, Mary Beth Hamel, MD, MPH, internist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and executive deputy editor of the New England Journal of Medicine, Paul Sax, MD, clinical director of the HIV Program and Division of Infectious Diseases at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Howard Bauchner, MD, professor of pediatrics and community health sciences at the Boston University School of Medicine and editor-in-chief of Journal of the American Medical Association.
