Mortality from Neurodegenerative Disease Not a Concern in Major League Baseball
All-cause mortality and mortality from neurodegenerative disease are no higher among Major League Baseball than the general population, but playing professional baseball seems to increase mortality from certain cancers.
Biography
Marc Weisskopf is the Cecil K. and Philip Drinker Professor of Environmental Epidemiology and Physiology in the Department of Environmental Health at the Harvard School of Public Health. He received his PhD in neuroscience from the University of California, San Francisco, and his ScD in epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health. His research interests are in how environmental factors affect the nervous system, and in the epidemiology of neurological disorders. Dr. Weisskopf was recently the recipient of the American Federation for Aging Research--New York Academy of Sciences--General Electric Healthcare Neuroimaging Prize for Junior Investigators.
