Mass General at the American Heart Association's Scientific Sessions 2018
The AHA's Annual Scientific Sessions conference is a global exchange for cardiovascular scientists and clinicians where cutting-edge science and clinical practices are discussed and debated. Specialists from Massachusetts General Hospital will present leading research and innovative treatment approaches in cardiovascular care.
Physicians and researchers from the Massachusetts General Hospital Corrigan Minehan Heart Center present leading research and innovative approaches to the prevention and treatment of cardiac disease, and late-breaking science.
Featured Topics Include:
- Genomics
- Cardiac surgery
- Nuclear cardiology
- Precision medicine
- Cardiac disease in women
- Cardiac disease in the athlete

American Heart Association Distinguished Scientist Recognition
The American Heart Association's Distinguished Scientists are a prominent group of scientists and clinicians whose work has importantly advanced our understanding of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. This award was created over 10 years ago to recognize AHA/ASA members for significant, original and sustained scientific contributions that have advanced the association's mission: "Building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke."
This year, Mass General's own Robert Levine, MD, will be recognized as an AHA Distinguished Scientist.
Dr. Levine focuses on using imaging techniques to explore mechanisms of valvular heart disease in order to develop and test more specific and effective therapies. This mission encompasses diseases of excess valve motion (prolapse, obstructive systolic anterior motion) and deficient valve tissue relative to the remodeling ventricle after heart attack.
About the Corrigan Minehan Heart Center
