Discovery of New Molecular Player May Lead to Pathway for Hearing Loss Reversal
Dunia Abdul-Aziz, MD, and Albert Edge, PhD, researchers at Mass Eye and Ear, used a combination of genetic tools with inner ear organoid technology to identify new pathways involved in hair cell regeneration.
Biography
Dr. Dunia Abdul-Aziz is a board-certified otolaryngologist specializing in otology and neurotology. Seeing patients at our main campus and Wellesley locations, her clinical interests include hearing loss, chronic ear disease, eustachian tube disorders, vestibular disorders, and tumors and other diseases involving the lateral skull base. She has also developed the clinical skills for management of superior semicircular canal dehiscence and performance of transcanal endoscopic ear surgery.
Concurrent with her clinical activities, she is involved in basic science research focused on sensory hair cell regeneration, seeking to understand and target fundamental developmental pathways to restore hearing.
