Mass General Researcher Leads Effort to Address Cumulative Radiation Exposure
Madan Rehani, PhD, director of Global Outreach for Radiation Protection at Massachusetts General Hospital, studies patients' exposure over time and advocates for means to reduce the exposure.
Biography
Madan M. Rehani, PhD, serves as the Director for Global Outreach for Radiation Protection Program and Chair of the Radiation Safety Committee at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Rehani previously worked at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Austria, and was responsible for global-scale efforts on radiation protection for patient and staff and more. He also held leadership positions at the European Society of Radiology, the Collaborating Centre of the World Health Organization (WHO) on Imaging Technology & Radiation Protection and the International Organization for Medical Physics (IOMP).
At Mass General, Dr. Rehani participates in collaborative activities with several countries as well as international and national organizations to promote safer use of X-rays and radiopharmaceuticals for human application and research.
Dr. Rehani has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors including Dr. Ramaiah Naidu Oration Award, the Butterfly Award by Alliance for Radiation Safety in Pediatric Imaging, the Harold Johns Medal for International Education from the IOMP, a certificate to commemorate the Nobel Peace Prize and more.
