Biography
Dr. Crystal North is a pulmonologist and critical care physician at Massachusetts General Hospital, instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School, associate in Global Health at Mass General Center for Global Health, visiting scientist at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and research fellow in the Mass General Medical Practice Evaluation Center. Her research focuses on understanding the epidemiology of chronic lung disease in resource-limited settings. In particular, she is investigating the influences of HIV and ambient air pollution on lung inflammation and lung function in Uganda. Dr. North earned her MD from the University of Washington and her MPH from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. She completed internal medicine residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital – Cornell, pulmonary and critical care fellowship at the Harvard combined program and was a Fogarty Global Health fellow in Mbarara, Uganda. Her research is supported by grants from the American Thoracic Society, the Harvard Center for AIDS Research, the Parker B. Francis Foundation and the National Institutes of Health.
