Obesity and Weight Gain Since Early Adulthood Are Associated with a Lower Risk of Microscopic Colitis
Microscopic colitis differs strikingly from many other immune- and metabolic-related disorders, including other forms of inflammatory bowel disease, in that its incidence is inversely associated with obesity and weight gain since early adulthood.
Biography
Stuart Po-Hong Liu, MD, MPH is a clinical investigator focusing on gastrointestinal and liver diseases. He has published more than 20 original researches on the management and prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma. He has won several national and international investigator award. He was a practicing gastroenterologist and hepatologist at Taipei Veterans General Hospital, a 3,000-bed tertiary referral center in Taiwan. He earned his MPH degree at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health with concentration in biostatistics and epidemiology. He worked at the Clinical Translational Epidemiology Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital, investigating diverticular disease, colorectal cancer, and inflammatory bowel disease and volunteered at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, aiming to improve the outcome of liver cancer. He is currently a trainee in Physician-Scientist Training Program in Internal Medicine in UT Southwestern Medical Center. His interests include history, computers, outdoors, and transitional justice.
