Immune Cells in Small Intestine Microbiome May be Linked to Metabolic Disorders
Massachusetts General Hospital researchers investigated intraepithelial T lymphocytes, which are immune cells that are in the lining of the small intestine, and found they may play a crucial role in regulating metabolism.
Biography
Dr. Filip Swirski is the principal investigator in the Center for Systems Biology at Massachusetts General Hospital. After completing his Ph.D. in immunology at McMaster University in Canada and postdoctoral studies in vascular biology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, in 2007 Dr. Swirski joined Mass General, where he established his lab. Dr. Swirski studies the role of leukocytes in inflammation, metabolism and physiology.
