Midlife Women's Health 2019: A Multidisciplinary Approach to Care
Midlife Women's Health 2019 is a one-day course that provides a multidisciplinary approach to the care of menopausal women.
Advances in research, technology and pharmacology increase options available for midlife women, but this rapidly changing knowledge-base presents a challenge for clinicians. Care for women at this stage of life is optimized by education on a range of medical concerns provided by experts from a wide variety of medical specialties. Given demographic changes in the American population, midlife women are becoming an increasingly important group served by health care providers, with needs that cross many areas of medical expertise.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Assess a woman's risk of ovarian, cervical and uterine cancer through appropriate screening and recognition of early-warning signs.
- Formulate a strategy to optimize a woman's sleep at midlife utilizing pharmacologic, lifestyle and mind body approaches.
- Employ decision aids to assist women in making informed decisions regarding treatments for midlife problems, including vasomotor symptoms and osteoporosis.
- Recognize and manage common urogynecologic problems in older women, including prolapse and urethral diverticula and caruncles.
- Evaluate and treat women with osteoarthritis using a range of effective interventions.
- Recognize, assess and address unique cardiovascular concerns of aging women.
- Integrate strategies to empower the aging brain and reduce the impact of cognitive decline
- Assess and treat varicose veins and pelvic venous congestion.
- Identify the genitourinary syndrome of menopause and assist women in devising an individualized approach to reduce its impact on sexual function and quality of life.
Target Audience
This educational activity is designed for physicians and advance practice nurses in general medicine, gynecology, oncology, cardiology, neurology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, psychiatry and surgery. Physicians and advance practice nurses in-training also are encouraged to attend.
We anticipate learners principally from the Boston area for this one-day course, but as there are no other courses specific to midlife women's health offered by any area medical center, learners from around New England and more distant regions also are encouraged to attend.
