Pathology Exam Protocol Proposed for Gender-affirming Orchiectomy Specimens
In most specimens from patients who underwent gender-affirming orchiectomy, Massachusetts General Hospital researchers identified absent or markedly reduced quantity of Leydig cells, epithelial hyperplasia, nuclear cytomegaly, and reduced tubular diameter. They propose a grossing protocol for adequate evaluation.

Massachusetts General Hospital researchers demonstrate that antimicrobial photodynamic treatment of urinary tract infection can be successful in an intact animal model.
Biography
Dr. Wintner is an instructor in surgery at Harvard Medical School as well as the Site Director of the Urology Resident Program and Massachusetts General Hospital. He graduated from Harvard College with a degree in philosophy and went on to receive his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He returned to Boston to complete his residency training in Urologic Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital. After graduating from residency he became staff at MGH before pursuing subspecialized fellowship training in Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgery and Cancer Survivorship at Duke University Medical Center in North Carolina. After fellowship, he rejoined the faculty at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Department of Urology. He have two main areas of subspecialty clinical practice: Reconstructive Surgery of the Genitourinary Tract and Benign & Malignant Conditions of the Prostate. His academic area of interest is medical education and he has published multiple textbook chapters in both adult and pediatric urology.
